Wilderness Systems Tsunami 145 Sit Inside Touring Expedition Kayak
If you want to take on ocean kayaking or want to spend a couple nights paddling and camping, the Wilderness Systems Tsunami meets those requirements with a roomier cockpit. Plenty of storage is available in the sealed hatches fore and aft and lots of deck rigging in front and behind the seat provides at-hand access for what you need while on the water.
Intended for paddlers 5’10 and 175 lbs or more, the Tsunami is fast and gives the performance you need in big water but you don’t feel stuffed into the boat. The seat in the Tsunami has 6 points of adjustment to get the perfect fit to optimize paddle performance and to allow for adjustments over longer trips. The boat also features under deck storage for a drink, fully adjustable footpegs, and all the padding and outfitting you would expect in an expedition style kayak. Rudder kits and spray skirts are available.
If you’re new to serious expedition style paddling, the Tsunami is a good model to start with. The rotomolded hull is less performance oriented than carbon, kevlar, or fiberglass, but also more forgiving. The bulkheads are foam and sealed to the polyethylene with low likelihood of breakage or failure over time. There are plenty of designer expedition kayak models available, but for the beginnger to intermediate, paddling the NC coasts and sounds, the Tsunami is offering a lot for the price.
